You can trick bombers into dropping far more bombs than they should, and fighters can do some impossible manoevers, for example. Infinite queuing, simple resource extraction, continuous resource flows (you spend money on construction per-tick, not upfront), and units that can fire while moving.īe warned, though, there are a lot of exploitable gameplay bugs that became part of the multiplayer online meta.
TA is a great game, and I've always sad that so few RTS games learned lessons from it. It allows larger battles than TA with less lag. This makes it much easier to keep the proper engagement distance. It was also nice that it showed firing range rings around the units you had selected, different colors for different types of weapons such as ground vs air. It also has it's benefits like all of the really cool experimental gigantic robots and weapons. I was just nitpicking a little bit about it. One thing about it is that using workers to super build units in a plant was wayyy more effective in TA, and my other biggest gripe is that 90% of units in SupCom shoot some type of energy beam / laser, whereas in TA there was more of an equal spread of artillary, missiles, plasma guns, it had everything.Įdit: Overall though SupCom is a worthy successor that I enjoyed playing quite a bit. I never could get used to the energy and metal system in SupCom though, I really preferred the resource system in TA. Once you have that zoom it is hard to ever go back. SupCom is great and all but for me, This was the pinnacle of RTS. Artillery that would aim up/down depending on distance to target and can hit submerged units with the splash when impacting water.Weapons were also affected by height differences so artillery hugging a wall can't shoot over it as it'll just slam into the cliff-face but place it a little back and it'll shoot over! LOS that wasn't absolute and took into account height differences, etc being able to only see halfway up walls until your unit begins to climb or peek over the edge.
Missiles that fly too long / lose their target will burn out and do damage to whatever they end up hitting.Units and buildings may leave corpses which can serve as make-shift shields and barriers. It had so many unique mechanics that haven't been replicated in newer RTS at all such as This game was ahead of its time, and possibly still is. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch./r/gaming4gamers - middle ground between purely-for-fun and more serious subreddits./r/GamingLeaksAndRumours - Leaks and Rumors.Posting unmarked spoilers will result in removal and warning, and posting spoilers with malicious intent will result in a ban.
